Memorial Day Weekend 2009 - Leavenworth, WA

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:
We decided to head over to Leavenworth, WA for the Sunday/Monday of Memorial Day weekend.  We had a lot of fun just walking around and enjoying our time together.  Although it was a short trip, it was a perfect get-away.  We also finally got a new point and shoot camera!  These pictures were all taken with the new little guy.  We're still trying to figure out how to optimize picture quality.

Walking back to the hotel Sunday evening...it was HOT out!

Some fun in the hat/glasses store....

No picture of Ethan in the hat shop...he simply refused to put on any fun hats or glasses...party pooper!

But give him a stick and he's all up for a photo opp.  Here he is being a ninja, or something like that...

The flowers were everywhere and oh so beautiful..

Kayleen payed for her own rock climbing adventure.

Finally, time to cool off!

The kids crashed hard Sunday evening.  :-)

More pictures are posted on Jill's Facebook account...

Water Fun and a Birthday

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:

Although the warm weather is sporadic at best, we're enjoying every ray of sunshine we can soak in.  Here are a few pictures from one of the nicer days a few weeks ago.

Sprinkler Fun

Pure Trouble!

The tune from any random 70's drama runs through my mind for this next shot...something like "Boom-chicka-wow-wow".  Something is not right here......

Turns out Kayleen "double dog dared" Ethan to put a mouthfull of our driveway gravel in his mouth.  And...he did it.  Nice.

And here's more sibling love...

KAYLEEN TURNS 9!

This last Wednesday, MAY 6TH, we had a birthday in the family.  Our sweet baby girl turned 9 years old!  The time has truely flow by.  These are a few pictures from the day.  More pictures of her actual "friends" birthday party to be posted later...as the party is today!

Big kids bike!

Webkinz, a 9 year olds staple.

And no girl's birthday is complete without neon nailpolish...right????

Spring Break, Take 1

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:
Today is the first day of Spring Break for Kayleen and Ethan.  They both asked me if they could do a big job to earn $5 each.  Alrighty then....

Kayleen had to tidy up both the front yard and back yard.

Ethan had to organize the third bay of our garage...kids bikes, toys, etc.

Alex just rode his bike around the whole time...yesterday was the first day he actually rode around by himself!!  He loves it.  This morning he woke me up and asked if he could go ride his bike.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures.  I had the settings wrong on the camera..ugh.

Spring Snow

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:

What??  Spring??  Spring in the Northwest maybe?

Surprisingly, we all woke up to the white fluffy stuff this morning.

This has got to be one of the snowiest years we've ever had since being here in North Bend.  We usually have one or two good snow shows and that's it.  There has been many a fall and melt this year.

As I type this out, it's still coming down, but school is still on.  Between the winter snow and flooding school is already pushed back till June 24th!  At this point it would take the school district a real snow storm to cancel school now.

On a side note, Kayleen wasn't feeling well yesterday so she stayed home from school.   After a long afternoon of laying around, she wanted to make "something".  I found an old children's cookbook Grandma Sester had given us and let Kayleen browse through it.  After a few minutes Kayleen started to ask me if we had these ingredients:  eggs, milk, toast, butter.  Hmm, 10 guesses what it was....of course, french toast!  So, Kayleen made her very own french toast yesterday.  She's becoming such an independent young lady.  *sniffs*

Ahh yes, and Alex had to be right there by her side to "help".

Hot Tub Cleaning 101

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:

Alexander is helping me get the hot tub all cleaned up for the party.  It's snowing outside, but we'll have new crystal clear water for everybody!!

Mommy's little helper.

Spraying off the filter...eww, it was dirty!

Now the filter gets to sit in a chemical bath until it's nice and clean.  If you look really close you can see tiny snow flakes!

After all that hard work, Alex and Mom have little snow ball fight.

On a side note, we got a new couch for Jeremy's office.  Mom doesn't spend any time in this room during the day, so it's nice for her to "retreat" from the rest of the house (ehem...job) after the kids are in bed!  More pictures of the room remodel to follow in future blog posts!

Mom now gets to run on the treadmill with the TV on...it's great!

Inspired by Sister-in-Laws

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:

My sister-in-law inspired me to dust off our bread maker this week.  We've had a house full of delightful fragrances so far…and I haven't bought bread in over a week!  These pictures are of Alex helping mom make pizza dough.  We found a recipe that called for minced garlic, olive oil, basil, and oregano – what fun!  We also have some homemade pizza sauce we're trying.  Tomato sauce and tomato paste are way cheaper than buying the premade stuff, or even spaghetti sauce!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no “Suzie Homemaker” but I like to save a buck here and there, and feed my family with ingredients I can pronounce!

Here is Alex watching the dough being mixed...he doesn't know I'm watching him yet.

Here he is once he's realized I'm talking pictures.  :)

On a side note, Alexander is doing wonderful at the whole potty training process.  He's only wearing pull-ups at night and those are dry most mornings!  Farewell Huggies, you've been a great friend for the past 8 years.

I hear ya on the diaper homefront!

The breadmaker is a Cuisinart CBK-200 2-Pound Convection Automatic Bread Maker.  I got it on Craigslist for $40.  Not a steal like your $13 one, but still a pretty good deal based on the retail price.

The homemade pizza crust was SOOOO good!  The whole cookie sheet of pizza was GONE in one night!  If anybody wants the recipie email me....it tasted better with the pepperoni than the pineapple & ham.

It's already Feb. 12th already?  WOW!!!
This year is going by way too fast.

Winter Isn't Gone Quite Yet

The boys were running through the upstairs hallway this morning being ridiculously loud at 7:30 a.m.  They were excited because it was snowing!  After two days of bitter cold temps, we finally got the white stuff...again.  :-)

American Idol Night!

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:
To celebrate the beginning of the new season of American Idol, we had a little ice cream fun.  As we don't normally buy ice cream in bulk, the kids were very excited.  Can't wait to sit and cuddle with the kiddos and watch the crazy singers mixed in with the talented folks.

Hey!  At least it's the reduced calorie Dryers.   Oh, you should really try it...it's yUUmmmyyyy!
