Today’s Mommy aka Unique Multitasker

Today’s Hen has to be very skilled in her craft, or she will sink like the Titanic.  As time’s and technology have changed dramatically over the past 15-30 years, gone are the days of daily chore lists consisting of scrubbing the floors and doing laundry.  Here is a sneak peek of today’s Hen…

From the outside looking in, the Roost seems like a very relaxed place to be today.  Two of the chicks are off playing quietly, and one chick is away at this last day of day camp (which held a sleep over last night…his first).  But if you look into the mind of the Hen, it’s quite hectic.  No, it’s a tornado!

Now I know why lists were created…to get all the clutter out of the brain while having some means to not forget all the important tasks waiting and ready to suck your time and energy.  Do we do this to ourselves?   I guess we do.  Life just happens sometimes and you have to roll with the punches.

As I have been thinking about what to blog about next, there are about 10 items on tap, and about 300 pictures to choose from.  Daunting?  Yes.  Sometimes I wish somebody would throw me a life preserver ring to save me from drowning in the sea of digital pictures we’ve taken over the past 10 years.

Oh, I’ll get to a fun post loaded with pictures, sure, because that’s what we’re all looking forward to, right?  But first I thought I’d just give you a glimpse into my head and see why I’m always a bit frazzled and my house isn’t the tidyest around.  I’m here at my computer with these items tumbling around my head…I need to:

  • get a new blog post up
  • research uniforms for Kayleen’s soccer team and present them to the team parents
  • call vet because the dog ran in front of a kid on a bike and the dog’s now limping
  • go to my doctor’s appt today
  • pick up kiddo from camp today
  • get Sunday School lesson to this week’s teacher…on Friday, nice huh?
  • download pictures from last night’s anniversary date and post about it
  • take a test and watch a video about concussions (kids sports requirement)
  • make some more coffee…ha!
  • Oh, and I guess I had better get thinking about what’s for dinner????

Did you notice anything???  None of it had to do with upkeep of the home.  That would probably take up a whole other blog post of it’s own, and be really boring.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining.  Rather just realizing how my mind was going in so many different directions at almost the same time.

Nope, this was not an exciting blog post, but just something on my mind.  I guess I had better go get a “fun” blog post going or ya’ll may never return.  :-)

so true! i have lists like that too, and only 2 kiddos to wrangle. i honestly crave the simplicity of cooking/cleaning/etc but don't see any way to simplify that much. i love posts like this, btw, and only need pics every once in awhile to get my fix :)

Exactly my thoughts too, Jill. Feel like I'm trying to keep up with 5 full time jobs and not doing well at any of them. The frustrating thing is when I realize that I don't even have time to enjoy any of them. Grrr. And that is why I haven't started a blog yet. I'm drowning as it is.

I don't spend a ton of time on the blog, but it's one thing I truly enjoy. A lot of the "to-do's" are not enjoyable, they just need to get done. If I can spend 30 min every week-or-so on the blog it makes me sane...or saner (is that a word?). I think if I had to do work only and no fun hobbies that would make me resent the work. On the flip side, a lot of the work represents taking care of my family and I don’t want to resent that either. So, yes, the blog is a little bit of “me” time. ;-) And I've always loved to look at others pictures, so I like looking at our family blogs. It's such a great way to keep in touch and see what we're all up to. COME ON CHRISTINE!!! hehe
